The space station insulation & MMOD protection

A new concept is being thrown out where thermal management & MMOD protection would be addressed after space station has started orbiting the earth. Here it goes..... Just a random thought I wanted to record..... Why do we not spray the exterior of space stations with special materials which provide insulating properties?? https://youtube.com/shorts/UPd5S-EIzbA?si=d1rBWzfRplYycMNa Let's consider this...... A space station goes to orbit. There are small autonomous spray drones (space drones); they can venture out and from their tank they can spray the insulation material. It becomes insulating. Now all that astronauts need to do is to go out and paste the Nextel stickers (fabric with adhesive layer) on the insulation. We have now both thermal insulation (both high & low temp) and also a functioning MMOD shield. Sitaram Sitaram

On Space X stage recovery

It is very interesting to think about, what Elon musk has done seems like magic. One would think that how much consistency in of a propulsion /control system would be needed to achieve this feat. However when one thinks of it, there is a fixed target on ground which needs to be homed into. Now the target may be in contact with the returning stage, I.e from the ground target a constact signal could be transmitted which can guide the returning stage to pin point accuracy. India too has achieved something similar during anti satellite testing. We could hit a moving target which was going at 7km/s speed from a missile launched from ground. So achieving such accuracy should be feasible if a signal is being transmitted from the target location probably with existing technology.

Injecting higher payload into orbit - concept variation 3

Till the time boosters fire, trolley along with remaining LV and payload would remain afloat...... मुझे कौन पूछता था तेरी बंदगी से पहले  Hare Ram Hare Krishna Jai Hind

Injecting higher payload mass with hugher envelope to orbits

In continuation with the concept proposed in https://newagespace60.blogspot.com/2024/08/launching-higher-payloads-to-orbit.html Some variation of the concept in order Elements of the conceptual design- 1) A rigid elevated platform such as a mountain or a hill 2) An enclosure with vacuum conditions inside so that high relative velocities can be achieved before breaking the sound barrier 3) A trolley with hyperloop type maglev technology which houses the remaining LV and payload in it's enclosure (if needed) 4) Two Solid boosters which would accelerate the trolley inside the enclosure till the length of the enclosure 5) Magnetic brakes on trolley to decelerate it after release of LV or it can be also shot off the track in projectile motion and can come down on parachutes The illustrations remain same as the mentioned blog (at the start of the post) मुझे कौन पूछता था तेरी बंदगी से पहले  Hare Ram Hare Krishna 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Launching higher payloads to orbit- a concept

Image
I was listening to ISRO chairman sir speak about how one of the great difficulties in occupying space and other planets is the payload mass that LVs of present day can carry. So I started to wonder could it be possible to assist the current day launches, say a space tug (not likely), an elevator (difficult), what about the new tech such as spin launch system (limited by mass that can be sent up)...... so can there be something else better?? A concept in order- Following elements of the concept- 1) A rigid elevated platform such as a mountain peak or a high hill which would reduce the air resistance for a projectile being shot at 1-2 kmps 2) A hyperloop based propulsion system that houses a trolley which supports the launch vechicle (for remaining velocity addition) and the payload. To be electrically powered 3) A long track meant to fecilitate enough velocity while keeping acceleration within design limits. The track shall guide and support the launch vehicle.  4) An enclosure whic...

Space debris remover

Image
In continuation of a previous concept...... can one have a silk net based debris remover satellite...... Indian silk is known to be lightweight and with good packing quality....... lets discard the tangling possibilities, It could be worked out during packing plan. Can one have a miniature cleaner sat which would throw out silk net and then electrostatically charge it so that it spreads...... One just needs to go near a dead satellite and spread the net, once the dead sat is trapped just tug it to earth's atmosphere......one may consider microsats or nanosats for this purpose...... Silk can be Indian made...... Hare krishna hare ram

More on launching from a mountain tops

I just watched a video from everyday astronaut where he is comparing pros and cons of launching a rocket stage from a Hilltop or a mountain he claims that atmosphere grows thin by 40% at an altitude if 4km Can we have rockets specifically designed for that with projections such as a bulbous payload fairing and nozzles which project out of the sleek body configuration I have not really gone to an extent of complete vehicle engineering, however can we reduce the hazardous effects of dense atmosphere even if we consider for the time being that we can accommodate a payload fairing which is larger in size than what a conventional payload fairing would allow us to have it. It Would Still Be a favourable situation While listing down the pros and cons of launching from a mountain top in India we have mountain tops as higher 7 km in altitude so much of the atmosphere is done for also as the rocket stage would lift off from 7 km it would not have to face high dynamic pressures as it would h...
